Buckle up, grab your airplane ticket, let’s start this wild ride. One more thing before we get started. We know we missed something or a lot of somethings in the Hawaiian travel blog, please use the comments below to let us know why you travel to Hawaii or want to travel to Hawaii.
The housekeeping is out of the way, let’s do this.
The Hawaiian Weather
As you get ready for your Hawaiian adventure and book your flight, hotel, and Hawaiian activities, you need to know what the weather is going to be like. So, before you travel to Hawaii ensure that you are ready for the gorgeous weather of the Hawaiian Islands. Here is a hint, there is not a bad time to visit Hawaii. The goal here is to give you a general understanding of the weather and what to expect when you travel to Hawaii.
You will find the best weather in April, May, September, and October because the rainfall is light. So our first tip for travel to Hawaii is to pick one of these gorgeous months. November through March tends to see the most rain. If you are looking for the cheapest fares and quietest month to travel to Hawaii, you can check November, it might be a great time to get away from the cooling weather of the US.
Here is a quick overview of each month as you plan to travel to Hawaii.
Hawaiian Weather in January
While most of the continental US is under snow and harsh conditions, you may want to escape and travel to Hawaii in January. The high temperature is going to be in the low-’80’s, while the lows will be in the mid-’60s. Not a bad alternative to shoveling snow. You may encounter rain, but you can deal with it, just be prepared with a light raincoat.
Hawaiian Weather in February
Much like January, you are going to encounter pretty amazing weather, especially coming from the midwest or the eastern United States. The temperatures are going to be in the ’80s as a high and mid-’60s as a low. Water temperatures are still going to be warm and that Hawaiian beach is going to feel much nicer than the snow piling up in your driveway. What couple would not want to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Hawaii?
Hawaiian Weather in March
March weather is still on the chili side (for Hawaii temps) as the lows are going to reach the mid 60’s. Just like January and February, there is a higher chance of rain Make sure to bring your raincoat and a light hoodie as the night can be a little on the cool side.
Hawaiian Weather in April
As you look to travel to Hawaii, April is really when people start to look to book their travel. Temperatures are a little warmer, but the rain is slowly fading away. Highs will still be in the low ’80s but the night will be a little warmer with lows in the upper-’60s. It is still recommended to bring a rain jacket because it is the tropics and rain happens. The overall volume for visitors will still be lower than the peak. All this makes April a great time to look for some Hawaiian travel deals.
Hawaiian Weather in May
The weather in Hawaii come May is going to be great. The temperatures are starting to push to the mid-’80s and the nighttime lows are going to be in the low-70s. The summer crowds are still not in full swing so you might be able to grab some great deal on hotels and flights. The chance of heavy rainstorms is low, making May weather in Hawaii just fantastic and maybe the best month to travel to Hawaii.
Hawaiian Weather in June
The June weather is going to be great. June in Hawaii is going to have the least amount of rain and the temperatures are going to range from the low-’70s at night to the mid-’80s in the day. Crowds will start to head to Hawaii as schools are going to be letting up for summer break, but you can’t beat the weather and low rainfall totals.
Hawaiian Weather in July
July is going to be more of the same as temperatures range from the low-70’s at night to the mid-’80s in the day. The rainfall in July is going to be average so a light raincoat is still recommended. Here is the downside of traveling to Hawaii in July. Schools all over the continental United States are out for the summer. The Southwest is likely going to see 100-degree weather and people are going to be traveling to Hawaii via plane, boat, and automobile if possible. The demand in July is the highest of the year. The high demand also means you will have plenty of activities and things to do, but prices are going to be high.
Hawaiian Weather in August
August is going to be the start of the peak of high temperatures. Highs are in the mid to upper-’80s and rainfall is below average. August the crowds will still be visiting because schools are out and the southwest remains dry and hot. August can be a great time to visit Hawaii before getting back to the school season. Create one more summer memory before you head back to school and get serious about work again.
Hawaiian Weather in September
If you are looking for warmer temps and fewer crowds, September might be your time to travel to Hawaii. The temperatures are still going to reach the mid to high-’80s and the night will bring lows in the ’70s. The travelers are not coming as much as many schools have started back in session. Late September can be a great time to travel to Hawaii as a couple.
Hawaiian Weather in October
The weather in October is going to be in the mid-’80s with a low in the low-70’s. The rain is starting to come back to the Hawaiian Islands so there is a higher chance that you are going to be using that raincoat. October does bring one of the lowest traveled months making October a great time to travel to Hawaii and enjoy the best Hawaiian beaches and amazing hikes.
Hawaiian Weather in November
November is going to bring more rain to the Hawaiian Islands and slightly lower temperatures. The highs will drop to the low-’80s and the lows will be in the upper-’60s. As November is the start of the Holiday season in the United States, you will see fewer crowds.
Hawaiian Weather in December
Who would not want to visit Santa in Hawaii? Who does not want to spend their winter break in paradise instead of feet of snow? If this is your thinking, you are not alone. The number of visitors that travel to Hawaii in December increases for this very reason. The weather is great compared to the rest of the United States with highs in the low-’80s and lows only dipping to the upper-’60s. Rainfall is at the peak of the season, but tropical rain beats midwest snow any day.
You already know that the weather is going to be amazing when you plan your next trip to Hawaii. So, let us turn our focus to the great Hawaii activities that will make your epic Hawaiian vacation. I tried to break them up into categories versus a huge, long list of every possible thing you can do while visiting Hawaii. My feeling is a huge list is overdone and becomes overwhelming.
Sidenote: Remember, I am going to miss something, so please use the comments below to tell everyone about your favorite Hawaii activities.
The Hawaii Activities We All Love
When you travel to Hawaii you are going to want to take part in many of the Hawaiian activities and immerse yourself in the culture. It is recommended that you plan your activities and leave time to relax and appreciate the Island you are visiting. Here are a few Hawaiian activities you can take part in when you travel to Hawaii.
Visit the beach
I am sure that if you’re going to travel to Hawaii, you will visit one of the many Hawaiian beaches. Depending on the Hawaiian Island that you choose, there is going to be something for you. If you are planning a Hawaiian vacation between December through May, you should put whale watching on your Hawaiian vacation itinerary as the chances of seeing a whale up close are at the highest.
Surfing in Hawaii
Are you an experienced surfer or are you new to this sport? Me, I am average. Over the years, surfing has taught me many things in life. If you travel to Hawaii and you are in need of a little adrenaline, maybe getting some surfing lessons is right for you. There are surf shops that offer lessons year-round. So grab your board and go shred.
Learn to Hula
Do you want to learn more about the Hawaiian culture? Then you might want to take a hula dance class while you visit your favorite Hawaiian Island. There are many places to learn traditional hula including the Polynesian Cultural Centre. Even if you are a manly dude, you can learn to hula.
This is another Hawaii activity that requires a little more guts. Checking out a zipline when you travel to Hawaii is going to give you a new perspective of the Hawaiian Islands that you have never seen before. Hawaiin ziplines can be the adventure of a lifetime.
Become a local
We have touched on the amazing culture of the Hawaiian Islands. I believe that we should all take a page out of the local playbook and live some of the Hawaiian proverbs. When you travel to Hawaii make sure to spend some time and get to really feel and become one with the local customs and culture, it might change your life forever. It certainly has changed my outlook on life.
Sidenote: Hawaiian Island Clothing was built because of the Hawaiian culture. We may not live on the Hawaiian Islands, but we do want to be more Hawaiian in our everyday activities. This is why we try to do good at all times and live Aloha.
Just Relax and Unplug
Here is one of my favorite things about Hawaii. The time zone. If you are like me, I work a hectic schedule, and sometimes it is hard to truly unplug from work. Well, here is the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. The local time in Hawaii is 6-7 hours later than my headquarters, by the time I am awake and get ready, the workday is about done. When I visit Hawaii, it forces people to figure it out on their own, allowing me to truly unplug and relax.
Hawaiin Island Tours
Finally, the classic Island tour. When you visit Hawaii it is recommended that you take a day and book a tour of the Island you are staying on. Hawaii bus tours can be a way for you to see new things that you may have missed. It is also going to give you a different perspective of the local area. Hawaiian Island tours are a great way to see the Hawaiian Islands and learn something along the way.
The Hawaii Family Vacation
Many of us travel to Hawaii with our few favorite people. Yes, this is your family, even if they drive you crazy. The question that we get often is if Hawaii is a good place to take the family, especially if you have kids. The answer is yes. Hawaii for the family vacation is perfect because it has tons of great activities to do while on the good old family vacation. Here is a list of the Hawaiian activities that are family-friendly, but you can still take advantage of these activities even without your family.
The Hawaiian luau is a great way to get great Hawaiin food and immerse yourself in the Hawaiian culture. If you have never attended one of these celebrations, you should make it a goal of your next Hawaiian vacation. Your kids will love it.
Polynesian Cultural Center
If you are looking for a great day with plenty of activities, the Polynesian Cultural Center is going to have something for everyone. It is located on Oahu and can quickly get you immersed in the Polynesian culture. It is a bit more educational, but even your kids will love learning a bit about this amazing place.
Atlantis Submarine Adventure
Have you ever been to Disneyland and rode the Nemo ride? Well, this is like that but way better. Get aboard your real submarine and dive 100 feet into the ocean to swim with a school of fish. This is a Hawaii activity that is very unique. Atlantis submarine adventures have multiple dive sites to accommodate your travel to Hawaii.
Aulani Resort – Disney Hawaii Resort
If you are taking your kids to Hawaii, I am sure you have at least thought about staying at the Aulani resort. I mean what kid would not want to stay at a Disney resort in paradise.
Pearl Harbor Tours
We all know the history of Pearl Harbor and it is a great reminder of the history of Hawaii. It was not always just a great place to visit and relax in the sun. If you are able to visit, you will be moved. This Hawaiian attraction is not recommended for families with small children, but if you kids are a bit older, make sure to place Pearl Harbor tours in your plans.
Visit the Dole Plantation
When you think about traveling to Hawaii, you are probably thinking about eating a delicious pineapple, right? Well, you are now. The Dole Plantation has some of the best-tasting pineapples on the planet. Yum.
There you have it a few family-friendly Hawaii activities you and your family are going to love. Make sure to tell us your favorite in the comments below.
The Hawaiian Couples Retreat
Let’s be honest, not all travel to Hawaii is going to be filled with action and adventure. There are millions of people that travel to Hawaii with just that special someone. Did you know that about 45% of reservations to Hawaii are for a party of 2? Here are a few reasons that so many couples travel to the Hawaiian Islands every year.
Mind out of the gutter, people. From the moment you get off the airplane, you are welcomed to paradise (if you pay for it, that is right there are services for this once traditional welcoming ceremony). It is highly recommended that you get lei’d when you go to Hawaii. There are many services that will greet you with the traditional Hawaiian lei. This is your first Hawaiian activity and the kickoff to a great time with your special someone. What a great way to kickoff that couples retreat.
Getting Married in Hawaii
Talk about the perfect place to get married. According to statistics 15,000 people travel to Hawaii every year to get married. There are tons of reasons why Hawaii is the best wedding destination on the planet, but we think that the ability to give your guests a memorable experience has to top them all.
Ok, maybe the destination wedding is not for you. Like many of you when I got married we had too many guests to just pick up and get married in Hawaii. This is why the Hawaiian honeymoon is so popular. There are nearly 250,000 people that celebrate their marriage with their new partner in Hawaii every year. One of the great things about the Hawaiian honeymoon is that every year for your anniversary, you have an excuse to travel back to Hawaii and catch that magic spark. Not bad if you ask me.
Hawaiian Vow Renewal
We recently had a group of friends who traveled to Hawaii to renew their vows. Maybe the Hawaiian wedding was out of the budget, but 10-15 years later you might want to renew your vows and recommit to your partner. This is a great reason to travel to Hawaii and maybe bring the kids this time.
Hawaiian Couples Retreat
This is one of my favorite reasons to travel to Hawaii. The couples retreat. Like we stated early, nearly 45% of the 10 million Hawaiian travelers are parties of 2. This means that the couples retreat is definitely on the mind of the Hawaiian traveler. If you are looking to travel as a couple or with a group of couples, you are in for the time of your life.
Whatever reason you are traveling to Hawaii as a couple, you are going to have a wonderful time. Plan accordingly and make a memorable vacation with that special someone.
The Many Great Beaches of Hawaii
If you are going to travel to Hawaii, you are going to visit a beach or two. No doubt about it. We are often asked about the best Hawaiian beach to visit. The answer here is simple. The beach you are with your friends and family is always the best. Every Hawaiian beach has something special to offer, you really can not go wrong. Of course, there are better beaches for surfing, taking photos, relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, or whatever Hawaii activity you are looking to do.
There are too many beaches to cover in the post, so if you want to read more about the best Hawaiian Beaches, click the link below to read our blog post about the amazing beaches of Hawaii.
The Hawaiian Culture
Before we conclude this blog post, we want to leave you with the most important part of traveling to Hawaii. This is the most important reason to travel to Hawaii, in my opinion, and the reason why Hawaiian Island Clothing exists.
The truth is, Hawaiian Island Clothing was created because of the Hawaiian culture and the spirit of Aloha because it is truly life-changing. We want everyone to be able to live a Hawaiian life, not on the Islands, but wherever you are. This is why we believe so many people travel to Hawaii every year. It is our recommendation that when you are in Hawaii, you get away from the hustle and bustle of the nightlife, the beaches, great restaurants, and really become one with the Hawaiian culture because it could change your life.
We hear from Hawaiian travelers every year that when they return from Hawaii, they are ready to go back because they miss the people and way of life. It is a true escape from the busy lifestyle that many, including myself, live.
Get to know the local customs and traditions while you are in paradise. You will not regret it.
